Tatha - A New Collection

Introducing, Tatha. A new jewellery collection for Kirsten Manzi Jewellery.

I’ve had so many ideas and numerous sketchbooks full of scribbles over the past couple of years, but have struggled with finalising designs and deciding on what will become part of a new collection. This year gave me some time to focus on making and designing. During a time of uncertainty, I found solace in the meditative process of making, which has led me to launch my new collection, Tatha.

Scottish Gaelic for Tay, Tatha is inspired by the River Tay here in Dundee. Daily lockdown walks down by the Tay resulted in a collection of photos of the river and the bridges. These photos were the beginning of the collection, which developed in my sketchbooks and finally became jewellery pieces handmade in 100% recycled silver. The collection combines textures reminiscent of the silvery waves of the Tay and shapes influenced by the bridges that cross them to create classic yet contemporary silver jewellery.

For me, a walk along a river (and more recently a swim!) is medicine, calming my mind, bringing a sense of peace. Taking a moment to pause, watch the light reflect on the water and listen to the waves always leaves me feeling relaxed and refreshed. Jewellery often acts as a memento, reminding us of a special place, person or moment in our lives. Tatha is a reminder to slow down, take stock of the little things and enjoy those precious moments.
